HOW WE WALK AND VEHICLES MOVES ON GROUND? A VERY INTERESTING FACT OF DAILY LIFE......

Till now we have often heard that friction opposes the motion but it will be surprising to know that we are able to walk on the ground and vehicles run on ground only due to friction. Whenever we walk our foot apply force on ground in the backward direction and then ground applies frictional force towards forward direction which help us to move forward direction. Friction is acting in opposite direction of applied force but since,we apply force on ground towards backward according to its nature it pushes us forward. In the same way, tyre of a vehicle, at the point of contact with the ground applies force on the ground towards backward (when it tends to move forward) and hence, the ground applies the friction force towards forward direction and in this way the vehicle moves on ground.
Friction force depends upon the cofficient of friction which vary from one body to different body. For smooth surface cofficient of friction is lower where as for rough surface it is higher. Walking on very smooth surface is difficult. That's why when we walk on the smooth surface in the computer lab or library, etc. of our university campus our feet gets slipped on the tiles.
In the same way vehicles cannot move on ice because cofficient of friction of ice is very very low.
